Chef Koochooloo is coming to Yeganeh Bakery!

We are back with yet another interesting Indian recipe for the young chefs out there. Today we will  be at Yeganeh Bakery in Santa Clara, between 4-5:30PM, teaching young kids how to make “Sabzi Sandwich Mishran” (mix vegetable sandwich). These sandwiches make for a healthy snack as they contain a stuffing of nutritious vegetables. They are the perfect blend of health and taste and are also fun and easy to make.

English Recipe Name: Mix Vegetable Sandwich         Name of dish in Hindi: Sabzi Sandwich Mishran
Serving Size: 10 people
Ingredients:
  • 2 Beetroots
  • 3 potatoes
  • One cup peas, boiled and mashed
  • One cup beans, finely chopped
  • 2 small or medium sized onions, finely chopped
  • 2 medium size carrots, finely chopped
  • Salt, pepper, red chilli powder, cumin powder and black salt as desired
  • 1 bunch coriander leaves chopped
  • 20 sandwich bread slices (Since we are teaching this recipe at Yeganeh Bakery, of course we are going to substitute their world famous Sangak bread)

Optional Ingredients:

½ tea spoon garam masala

Ingredient spotlight: Beetroot
Next time you are craving something sweet, enjoy this delicious root. Beets are highly nutritious, and extremely good for your heart. They have no trans-fats and no saturated fats, and they help prevent cancer!

Big Chef Duties:

  • Boil beetroot, potatoes and peas
  • Chop onions, beans and carrots
  • In a pan add little oil and saute onions, beans and carrots until they are cooked
  • After little chefs are done with their duties, grill the sandwiches

Little Chef Duties:

  • Peel and mash the potatoes in a big bowl
  • Mash the beetroot and peas in the bowl
  • Add the sauted onions, beans and carrots to the bowl
  • Chop coriander in small pieces and add them to the bowl
  • Mash all the veggies together
  • Mix salt, red chilli powder, pepper, cumin powder and black salt
  • Place small quantity of mashed vegetables between 2 bread slices

Learn while you wait activity:

Print a map of India, and have your kids color it.

Presentation

Eat the sandwich with tomato ketchup or any other sauce you like.
